Using third party images in your quiz.
Quizzes that include images are a lot more appealing and more popular with site visitors... BUT images you find online should only be used if the owner states they will allow this. Simply using an image without permission or proper attribution is likely to cause complaint. If we receive complaints about a quiz you create this will normally mean that your quiz is removed (and your account is likely to get blacklisted).
To avoid problems please follow this guide:
-
Where to obtain images
Search for images on sites that offer images that are free to use. Wikimedia Commons http://commons.wikimedia.org/ is a good site to use. For the purpose of simplicity, this guide assumes that you are obtaining images from Wikimedia Commons, but the basic steps should be the same if you use an alternative site.
-
Check the image licence
When you find an image you want to use, check the licence to ensure that you are allowed to use it:
Most images that are 'free' will still require attribution (identity of the image's source and owner). Please see the -Upload the image- step below for details. -
Download and prepare image for upload
Download a copy of the image you wish to use to your computer/device.
Ensure that the image is in PNG or JPG/JPEG format and no more than 40960 bytes (40 KiB) in size. If it is not, use an image editing programme to convert and resize your image so that the longest side is somewhere between 400-600px wide, save to JPG format (and adjust the quality if the file size is still over 40KiB). Free photo editing software such as GIMP is ideal for this job.

Upload the image
Use the add image button to upload an image to illustrate the question.
If attribution is needed, press the 'Add attribution' button to reveal a field that you can enter this in.
If you obtained the image from Wikimedia Commons, the attribution can be found in the image details by clicking on the 'Use this file on the web' link; you will then be able to copy and paste the text from the attribution field in Wikimedia Commons.
